Odisha train tragedy: The Center in support of the State Government is providing assistance to the injured and those who have lost their near and dear ones or families. In the order, the Railways on Sunday announced that ticketless passengers in the passenger trains involved in the tragedy will also get compensation. According to officials, this is in line with the Supreme Court order.

Passengers without tickets will get compensation

Railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said, “Irrespective of whether the passengers are ticketless (or not), they will get compensation.”

Jaya Verma Sinha, member, operations and business development, Railway Board, said that every patient admitted in hospitals is accompanied by a scout who helps his relatives track him. He also emphasized that the helpline number 139 is available and will continue uninterrupted. Senior Railway officials are responding to calls and trying to connect with as many people as possible.

“Family members of the injured or deceased can call us and we will ensure that they can meet them. We will take care of their travel and other expenses,” he added.

Railways also ensured prompt disbursement of ex-gratia amount announced by the Railway Minister. As per the ex-gratia announcement- Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs 2 lakh for serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries will be provided.
