Odisha: Congress begins second phase of Jan Sampark Padyatra, says youth, women, poor deprived of rights

In a bid to strengthen the party at the grassroots level, the Congress on Friday launched the second phase of the Jan Sampark Padayatra in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district with a focus on getting new members.

Odisha PCC President Sharat Patnaik, senior Congress leaders Tara Bahinipati, Bhujbala Manjhi, Debashish Patnaik, Sadan Naik, Nieman Sarkar and other senior leaders joined the padyatra.

All the leaders paid homage to 19 tribal martyrs at Shaheed Minar and attended a party function at Dabuga and Umarkot.

Addressing party workers, Patnaik said, “Umatkot is a Congress stronghold and it should be rebuilt here to launch a fight against both the Biju Janata Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party government. Their failure should be made public.”

“Both central and state governments have failed to keep their promise. Youth, farmers, women and people from low income group are being denied their rights. Administrative officers are not taking care of common people, which is not acceptable.

The first phase was conducted in Baleshwar district.

“If the Congress continues such activities across the state, it may have an impact on the voters. It should focus on women, farmers and youth. However, the party should have a strategy for the long run,” said senior journalist Akshay Sahu.
