Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to go on a foreign trip after almost a decade. He will be visiting Rome and the United Arab Emirates by the end of June to attend several events.

Official sources said Patnaik is likely to meet the Pope of Rome and the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, later this month.

The proposed foreign visit will be Patnaik’s second visit in his 22 years as the Chief Minister of Odisha. This will happen after a gap of ten years.

Sources further said that Patnaik will attend investors’ meetings in Rome and Dubai and will also meet non-resident Odia (NRO) delegations during his visit. He will be in the UAE on June 28 to attend an industrial meeting and several other events.

His proposed meeting with the Pope can be seen as an attempt to elevate his image. His branding and projection as a political leader in his 25 years of public life has been limited to the state and national level. This could become the first time he will attract international attention with such a high-profile meeting. Significantly, Patnaik last went on a foreign tour to London in May 2012. Business To meet.
