Odisha boy dies after falling from hill in search of mobile signal for online class Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Koraput: A Class VII tribal student of Rayagada district died in a freak accident on Tuesday evening while attending an online class on a hilltop near his village.
The incident took place around 5 pm and the deceased student was identified as Adira Gagaranga (13), a resident of S Pandarguda village, police said.
Adira was a student of a private school in Cuttack and was in her village as the school was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Since there is no mobile network in our village, my son used to climb a hill top to get a network to attend online classes. On Tuesday afternoon, he went to the top of the hill to attend an online class and suddenly the stone on which he was sitting while attending the class suddenly slipped. He fell down and the stone crushed his right leg,” said Adira’s father Narahari Gagaranda.
Firefighters reached the spot and rescued the student and admitted him to the hospital Padmapur Hospital for initial treatment.
“He had sustained injuries on his head, legs and chest and doctors had advised us to shift him to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, he succumbed to his injuries before we could shift him to Berhampur,” Narhari said.
Terming the incident as most unfortunate, Deputy Collector (Gunupur) J Sonal said, “The accident will be investigated and a final report will be prepared.”
Officials said 51 gram panchayats in Rayagada district are yet to be covered by mobile connectivity.
