Balasore Meaning: A man of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha The man who spent nearly 19 years in prison in the triple murder case was released on Wednesday after a judge ruled that he had been wrongfully convicted in 2005, reports Kishan Sahu.
Abel Sindhu of Balrampur village was charged with three murders on January 3, 2003. Those killed allegedly on suspicion of practicing black magic were a couple and their children in Sindhu’s neighborhood. Sindhu was arrested soon after the murder following a complaint.
In 2005, the then Additional District-cum-Sessions Judge (Baripada) sentenced Abel to life imprisonment. However, Sindhu challenged this decision in the High Court.
Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the High Court appointed an amicus curiae to investigate the matter. The district and sessions court on Wednesday acquitted Abel for lack of evidence after studying the entire case, hearing 11 witnesses and going through a 32-page investigation report.
“I am very happy as the court has cleared me of all charges and acquitted me. Although I have a family, they rejected me. I will return to the village and do farming,” said Sindu.
