Bhubaneswar: People in the age group 0-18 have taken 12% of the daily covid infection in the state in the last two days. This was revealed in different age group data shared by the government on its COVID dashboard.
Of the 1,058 cases reported on Sunday, 138 were among people below 18 years of age. Out of the 868 cases reported on Monday, 104 were under the age of 18.
Ajay Parida, director, Institute of Life Sciences (They) said, “Since people aged 0-18 are not vaccinated, it is natural for them to be more vulnerable to infection than others. The second wave has been slightly longer and for those under 18 years of age People are contracting the virus from their parents and others, who step out of the house. But the government has kept the infrastructure ready to deal with any crisis situation. We need to be under the age group of 18 years. Trial vaccination has also yielded promising results, so let’s hope they get a job soon.
He said data presentation such as 0-12 and 12-18 age groups should be further separated for greater clarity.
Experts further said that children are still more likely to be infected due to the easing or lifting of restrictions. “’Working family members, who go out and return home, carry the virus with them. In the process, children become infected. We have cases of three-month-old babies getting covid and landing in hospital in critical condition. But they are recovering fast. Now it is very important to protect them from exposure,” said Dr Janaki Ballav Pradhan, senior doctor, Pediatric Critical Care and Neonatologist at AMRI Hospital.
Out of 868 new cases reported on Monday, khurda The bulk of infections (256) were reported. The state recorded a test positivity rate of 1.39%. The government confirmed 66 more Covid deaths, taking the total death toll to 6953. With the capital reporting 211 new cases on Monday, the active cases crossed the 3,000 mark (3098).
