Panaji: Students who have failed in class IX and XI during the academic year 2020-21 will now have an opportunity to appear in the public examination of class X and XII 2022 as private candidates.

The board had earlier also revised the scheme for private candidates to appear in the public examinations of class X and XII in 2022. As per the revised scheme, private candidates will also get the benefit of further internal assessment throughout the year. This advantage of continuous and internal assessment will help in better evaluation of the students appearing for the examination board exam as private candidates. The overall result is not only dependent on how they perform during the final class X or XII examination.
Last week, the board sought suggestions from the general public on the proposal, following which the inputs received by a committee of the board were reviewed and the proposal was finally approved.
“After extensive deliberations, it was decided to allow students ‘in need of improvement’ class IX and to appear as private candidates, regardless of age, in the upcoming public examination for Class XI, X and XII of the academic year 2020-21, regardless of age, as a one-time measure in view of the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. in the form of. In addition, students ‘needing improvement’ in class XI may appear as private candidates only in non-practical subjects,” the board’s circular stated.
There is a minimum age criterion for the students to appear for the public examination as private candidates. This criterion has also been waived off to allow young students to take advantage of the one-time concession.
To appear as private candidates, students will be allowed to choose either their current school or any other school, which will act as their center and evaluate them throughout the year.
“The schools selected by the students to register as private candidates shall provide them with study material and necessary guidance on a voluntary basis, and conduct internal assessment and send the marks to the Board for further necessary action,” the circular said.
