Nothing officially confirms the Nothing Phone (1) smartphone, which will be powered by a Qualcomm chipset, and run on the new Nothing OS platform. The company has set a summer launch timeline for its first smartphone, so the wait is on. We don’t even know the hardware model that anything from Qualcomm is being used on this device.
Nothing’s founder Carl Pei claims he wants to make a compelling alternative to Apple. “Nothing will leave the product ecosystem open and isolated,” he said at the launch event. He also referred to the smartphone ecosystem as being mundane, and hopes that nothing can bring a dose of freshness to the market for consumers.

Carl says Nothing OS will make use of the best features of the stock Android platform. He also talked about the software being fast and smooth, which is a similar focus OnePlus has had over the years with its OxygenOS, which Carl knows all too well. Nothing the phone (1) gets three years of software updates and four years of security updates.
Carl also talked about the iconic design that nothing phone will adopt, demonstrating a few examples with a dialer and voice recorder app. He also showed how the recorder app captures sound.
But nothing is opening up the ecosystem to third-party brands, Carl mentioned specifically to AirPods and Tesla. He also said that the Nothing OS Launcher will be made available to select smartphones from next month.
The hype has been created, set, and it continues, as Nothing Phone (1) has only one name and partnership to mention right now.

We wait a few more months to see if Carl & Co. actually has a compelling product and a product that could become an alternative to Apple.
