‘Not a circus or cinema’: Kerala HC judge reprimands virtual attendee for not wearing shirt

New Delhi: After the outbreak of the coronavirus-induced pandemic in early 2020, people were forced to stay at home. With isolation, quarantine and social distancing becoming the new norms, the world embraced new ways of working online.

Apart from essential workers, most of the population felt themselves comfortable with virtual presence during the pandemic in some way or the other. As Zoom, Google Meet, or any other online meeting option became popular, many eventful events such as “Shweta Ki Call” has also made inroads.

Now a similar incident has come to the fore but the matter is serious.

A Kerala High Court judge on Wednesday reprimanded one of the participants in the virtual proceedings after the person concerned was seen on camera without a shirt.

Justice Devan Ramachandran said, “What is this? What is going on? This is a court, not a circus or a cinema.”

Despite being pointed out to the wrongs twice, the person concerned delayed in taking action, due to which Justice Ramachandran said that he would remove such persons from the proceedings.

“If they come for hearing like this, I will be forced to remove people (from virtual hearing),” he warned.

After that the person concerned logged out.

The High Court has been conducting virtual proceedings since the outbreak of COVID-19 last year.
