Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai has called a session of the state assembly on March 15 to administer oath to the new MLAs, while the BJP is yet to decide on the chief minister’s post.

According to a circular, Ganesh Gaonkar, the MLA elected by the governor, will be administered oath as the pro-tem speaker at the Raj Bhavan on Monday, March 14, after which the former will hold the oath-taking ceremony for other legislators. “The Hon’ble Governor has now ordered the convening of a new Legislative Assembly on 15.3.2022 at 11:30 am for the purpose of administering oath or affirmation to the newly elected members,” it said.

Meanwhile, the division of portfolios and the face of the chief minister’s post are still stuck. BJP’s central observers are yet to reach Goa and the assembly is yet to meet. According to reports, unless the CM face and cabinet departments are decided by Monday, there will be a change in the schedule on March 15.

The BJP won 20 seats in the 40-member assembly elections. Voting for the state assembly was held on February 14 and the results were declared on March 10. According to reports, the BJP is set to form the government after three independent MLAs extended support to the coastal state.
