Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz, which was responsible for the Corona blast, will now remain open till October 14. The decision was given by the Delhi High Court on Monday. The interim order allowing the reopening of five floors of the Markaz has been extended. Justice Jasmeet Singh said that the Nizamuddin Markaz Masjid will remain open till the next date of hearing i.e. October 14. Significantly, after a spurt in corona-positive cases, it was closed from March 3, 2020.

Markaz was open for Shab-e-Barat

On March 16, the High Court had allowed the opening of mosques for the public with similar terms and conditions in view of Shab-e-Barat. The same bench, while accepting the plea of Delhi Waqf Board to relax restrictions during Ramzan, also asked them to ensure strict adherence to the COVID protocol and social distancing norms.

According to the instructions of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, only 100 people have been allowed to visit and offer prayers on each floor of the Markaz.

CCTV cameras installed on every floor, staircase

The bench had also said that during this time no activity of Tablighi Jamaat will take place in Markaz. Nor can there be any lectures. The court had given permission to the Markaz management only for worship and directed that the management would monitor the crowd with CCTV cameras on every floor of the Markaz.

However, in the meantime, Delhi Police has also asked to install CCTV at the entrance and exit gates of Markaz as well as on the stairs of every floor.

Nizamuddin Markaz is closed since March 2020 Tablighi Jamaat was organized in Nizamuddin Markaz in March last year. In this event, many people were found to be corona positive out of about 2000 people gathered from the country and abroad. After this, the issue of spreading corona across the country from Markaz was raised and Markaz was closed on 31 March. But after the gathering of lakhs of people in the Kumbh Mela, questions were raised that why there are different rules for the two events amid the pandemic?
