Nitin Gadkari ‘Thanks’ Rahul Gandhi For ‘Insulting’ Veer Savarkar, Here’s Why

Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to apologize for his remarks on late Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar and said no one has the right to insult him. Gandhi should realize that he insulted the Hindutva icon because of a misunderstanding, Gadkari said at a gathering organized as part of the ‘Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’ in Nagpur, Maharashtra on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said the former Congress president should show mercy and apologize for his “crime”. “Who gave him the right to insult Savarkar?” Gadkari said. “No one will tolerate the insult of Savarkar.”

Gadkari thanked Gandhi for allowing the BJP to sensitize the youth of the country about Savarkar’s life and message through the yatra. He said, “We must thank Rahul Gandhi for allowing us to take the truth and Savarkar door-to-door. Gandhi should keep doing this.”

The former Congress chief has consistently targeted Savarkar by raising the issue of his mercy petition. His latest attack came after his disqualification from the Lok Sabha last month when he said, “My name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi and Gandhi does not apologize to anyone.”

The BJP and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena have organized ‘Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’ in the state to honor the Hindutva ideologue and counter Gandhi’s criticism against him.

Fadnavis criticizes Rahul for commenting on Savarkar

Earlier, while addressing the ‘Veer Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’ in Mumbai on Monday, the state deputy CM made a veiled attack on Rahul Gandhi, saying that those with golden spoons are questioning Savarkar.

“Those who have the golden spoon are talking about Veer Savarkar. Your party leaders respect Veer Savarkar. Indira Gandhi, Yashwantrao Chavan – they respected Savarkar and you are questioning them. Who are you? ?” They said.

“You said that Veer Savarkar apologized and wrote a letter to the British. No, this is wrong. Savarkar wrote a letter because he knew that the British would not release him. That’s why he wrote, don’t release me (Savarkar) Rather release the other prisoners.” who did nothing against you (the British).”

“Mahatma Gandhi wrote a letter to Savarkar’s relatives, who were also in jail with him (Savarkar) for many years, and said – other prisoners were released. He then asked Savarkar to tell the British also that you Released, released.” Me (Savarkar) too,” Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis targeted former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on the Savarkar issue. He said, “If you (Uddhav Thackeray) have self-respect, show it with your ‘karma’, not your ‘word’. Balasaheb Thackeray threw slippers at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s poster. Did you throw slippers at Rahul Gandhi?”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader questioned why Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was not deleting his tweet on Veer Savarkar.
