New Delhi: Amid concerns across the country regarding the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the central government on Friday said the possibility of a fresh outbreak of the viral infection cannot be ruled out and said the next 125 days will be very crucial. contain the disease.

Stating that India has not yet “reached herd immunity against Covid-19”, Dr Paul said: “We may see new outbreaks of the viral infection but we need to stop it now. This is possible only when Let us follow the COVID-appropriate behavior to stay in the safe zone.”

Taking precautions regarding the third wave of COVID, Dr Paul said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also talked about the third wave in other countries.

“We need to use this window to upgrade our health infrastructure. The World Health Organization has issued a global warning and we should learn from it,” he said at a media briefing.

Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal, who was also present during the media briefing, also echoed similar sentiments and said that the Covid-19 cases have started rising again in many countries.

“Our neighbors like Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh are also seeing a spurt in cases. The third wave in Malaysia and Bangladesh is higher than the peaks of the second wave,” he said.

Agarwal also warned against a sharp drop in the use of facemasks.

“Analysis shows a projected decline in use of face masks as we resume activities. We should incorporate the use of facemasks in our lives as a new normal,” he said.
