New Zealand declared their first innings at 521 for six on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Christchurch on Monday with captain Tom Latham scoring 252 runs.

Latham spent nine hours and 12 minutes in the middle, faced 373 balls and hit 34 fours and two sixes to put New Zealand in a strong position.

After losing the first Test by eight wickets, the hosts need to win the Test to level the two-match series.

Tom Blundell scored 57 with Kyle Jamieson scoring four as Latham timed the innings.

For Bangladesh, Shorful Islam took two wickets for 79 runs and Ebadot Hossain took two wickets for 143 runs.
