New photos show suspicious death of 87-year-old grandmother in NYC – The Henry Club

CHELSEY, Manhattan (WABC) – Police have released new photos of a woman allegedly wanted to push a beloved grandmother, who later died from her injuries in a random unprovoked assault.

Active artist and voice coach Barbara Meyer Gastern, 87, was practicing at Chelsea last Thursday night when The woman came up to him from behind and slammed him on the ground,

Gastern suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police announced five days later that his injuries had resulted in death.

Gustern was walking down 28th Street to attend a student demonstration when the woman attacked him near 8th Avenue.

The NYPD is hoping the new photos will help them identify the suspect.

She is described as having a light complexion and long dark colored hair.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black leggings, a white skirt (possibly a dress) and dark shoes.

Gastern’s grandson AJ spoke to Eyewitness News on Monday.

“She’s the light of my life,” he said after flying from Colorado to be with his grandmother at Bellevue Hospital. “I’m angry with the state of the world. I’m angry with the state of the city.”
