‘Never edgy, whatever happens’: Australia head coach Justin Langer not worried about contract renewal

Justin Langer didn’t shy away from his imminent talks with Cricket Australia about the renewal of his contract as head coach of the men’s team. Australia have seen four months of success, including a T20 World Cup win and an Ashes victory, after stories emerged that players were unhappy with Langer’s management style.

Langer held meetings with each member of the Australia team and was reportedly asked to change his coaching style, a suggestion he followed.

Australia have also been asked to move on from Langer as the former opener has been in charge of the team for almost four years.

Langer said, “No, never too fast, whatever,” said Langer. its Asked if he was nervous about his future discussions with CA. “Before the World Cup and before these Ashes, we have never been better prepared. It is no coincidence that we have got the success that we have had.”

“Whatever happens from now on, we can all be incredibly proud of this short period. We had two missions to win the World Cup and to win the Ashes, one in such a short amount of time to do so. Significant effort and we are all really satisfied with it, we are all very happy with it, we are all really proud of that. I am feeling really satisfied with the last two series at the moment.”

Giants like Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne have called on CA to offer Langer a new contract.

CA was expected to sit with Langer after the completion of the Ashes 2021-22.

“The absolute truth and people don’t believe it, but the absolute truth is before the World Cup and at the end of the Ashes we are all committed to the Ashes, sit down and have some conversations,” Langer said.

“It’s been four big years really. It’s a massive job, and it’s a tough gig. That’s all. It’s true. We all just said we’d sit after the Ashes. In the next short amount of time, I’m sure That’s where those talks will start. There’s a lot to talk about,” he said.

For Langer, the next challenge is to win Tests overseas, with Pakistan as his first major challenge.

“That’s the next challenge,” Langer said. “We have done some extraordinary things in the last few months. But we haven’t played much Test cricket in the last few years because of the COVID situation. Our next big challenge is to start winning overseas now. We all know about it, We have a really good team. It’s so exciting to see a lot of people step up this summer and it’s been an incredible brand of cricket. We’re excited about our next big win in Test matches overseas the challenge.”
