NEET UG 2023: Chemistry ‘Tricky and Lengthy’ This Year, Check Expected Cut-offs

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) 2023 The test was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday, May 7 in pen and paper mode in 13 languages. Students claim that the overall difficulty of NEET UG 2023 was easy to moderate. In order of difficulty among the various subjects, Botany was marked as the easiest, followed by Zoology. The difficulty level of Physics was rated as Easy to Moderate.

“Chemistry was considered the most difficult of all subjects. Inorganic and Organic Chemistry had more weightage than Physical Chemistry. On the difficulty level, Botany was placed in the easy to moderate category. Dr. Sarvesh Choubey, Deputy Regional Director, Aakash Byju Live said, Zoology mostly consisted of easy and moderate questions.

Overall the paper was found to be a bit easier as compared to NEET 2022. Chemistry was found to be a bit difficult as compared to last year. “Questions in Chemistry were more difficult and longer than last year. Rest of the subjects were almost equally difficult as compared to last year,” he said.

Most of the questions in Physics and Chemistry were from class 12th syllabus. While the major questions in Botany and Zoology were from the 11th class syllabus. Overall, questions from class 12th syllabus dominated the class 11th syllabus.

The correct option was not available for two questions in Biology section. DIKSHA’s National Head, Knowledge Management and Academic Excellence, Dr Milind C said that the correct option for question number 30 in Physics section was also not available and there was some ambiguity in question number 14. He said that the paper pattern in biology is similar to last year except diagram-based questions were not asked.

NEET 2023 expected cut off

There are two types of NEET cut-off – qualifying cut-off and entrance cut-off. The qualifying cut-off is the minimum marks that a candidate needs to secure in order to pass the entrance exam. While the admission cut-off is the last rank at which admission is granted.

Dr. Choubey said that the marks required to secure a seat in government colleges (All India Quota) are likely to be similar to last year, i.e. 580 to 610. He said that this time the number of students appearing in the exam was around 19 lakh, which is almost 18 percent more than last year, so the expected marks can be in the range of 590 to 620.

Students had to attempt 180 questions out of 200. Each question carried four marks. Four marks are given for the correct answer and one mark is deducted for the wrong answer. These 200 questions were divided into four sections subject wise (Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology). Each of these sections has subsections (A and B). In Section A, all 35 questions were compulsory, and in Section B, any 10 out of 15 questions were to be attempted in each subject.
