Naugam youth’s death: Cop suspended for paving way for ‘transparent probe’, says police – Kashmir Reader

SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday suspended one of its personnel for paving the way for a “transparent probe” into the death of a youth who was called for questioning in a theft case in Srinagar’s Natipora area.

‘Munir Munir son Munir Ahmed resident of Budhshah Nagar (Under Chanpura PS) was called on 9-7-22 (FN) at Police Station Nowgam for involvement in the theft case under FIR 95/2022. Naugam police station A police spokesperson said in a statement that the matter pertains to theft of a scooty.

He said the suspect was called to the police on the basis of CCTV footage, in which two men were seen taking a scooty to the Nowgam-Natipora area.

“As the person was under the influence of drugs at the time of reporting to Nowgam police station for investigation in the case, his family was called, which also confirmed that the person habitually abused drugs”, he added, “Considering” these facts, he was handed over to his family members with all legal formalities within a few hours of the afternoon (AN) of the same day.

It was later learned that he died at around 5 pm.

“As soon as the news is received, the process of inquiry has been started under section 174 of CrPC in Chanpura police station to find out the cause of death. The postmortem has been done, whose report is awaited.

Meanwhile, he said, a formal inquiry has been initiated into the matter and an officer of Nowgam police station (whose family members and relatives suspect foul play) has been suspended for a fair and transparent investigation.

“Srinagar Police reiterates its resolve to conduct departmental inquiry and action of 174 CrPC in a professional and transparent manner without any bias or favoritism,” the spokesperson said. (GNS)
