In Hebatpur village of Derabassi, Punjab, the police shot a youth in the thigh. Police claim that he opened fire in his self-defense. The bullet hit Hitesh Nail’s thigh. He was taken to the Civil Hospital but doctors referred him to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh. The victim’s brother Akshay alleged that, “We were standing on Hebatpur road when the police team came and misbehaved with us. He wanted to check my wife’s bag. They were drunk and opened fire on my brother.”
At the same time, a police officer said, “We were patrolling when we saw some people standing on the side of the road. They started fighting with us and a sub-inspector opened fire on them. They even tried to tear my uniform.” Mohali SSP Vivek Soni said, “The sub-inspector who was accused of firing at a 26-year-old youth has been suspended. We have not received any complaint till now. After receiving the complaint, the investigation of the matter will be started.”
