National Doctor’s Day 2022: The doctor-patient relationship is based on trust and good communication. We celebrate National Doctors Day every year on 1st July to pay tribute to the contribution made by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy in the health sector. The day also reminds us of the contributions and sacrifices made by healthcare workers around the world on a daily basis.

During difficult times, healthcare professionals face challenging situations and risk their lives to save others. The recent biggest example is the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many Hindi movies which depict the bond between a doctor and a patient.

  1. The Amar Kahani of Dr. Kotnis (1946)
    The film is a beautiful synthesis of business and patriotism starring V. Shantaram, who worked in China during the Japanese invasion and gave his life while treating his patients.
  2. Guzaarish (2010)
    The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starred Hrithik Roshan as a patient suffering from a quadriplegic condition. The film also featured Aishwarya Rai as a nurse who looked after Hrithik.
  3. Anand (1971)
    Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Dr. Bhaskar, develops a strong emotional bond with his cancer patient (Rajesh Khanna). Although he knows he cannot save the patient, he continues to look for alternative ways to cure his illness.
  4. Ek Doctor Ki Maut (1990)
    Based on real-life events, the film portrays a researcher who searches for a leprosy vaccine at the cost of his health.
  5. Munna Bhai MBBS (2003)
    Munna Bhai, a goon played by Sanjay Dutt, enrolls in a medical school in an attempt to please his parents and earn an MBBS degree. Although he was unable to complete his degree, he taught doctors how to treat patients with compassion.
  6. Dear Zindagi (2016)
    Shah Rukh Khan plays a character named Jahangir, a vibrant psychotherapist who treats a patient (Alia Bhatt) who has insomnia. With his compassion and devotion, he helps Alia’s character rediscover the path of self-love.
