Nani calls low prices of movie tickets in Andhra an ‘insult’ to the audience; Ministers hit back

As actor Nani termed the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to reduce the ticket rates in cinemas as an “insult” to the audience, state ministers hit back at him. The state government’s decision to price cinema tickets at lower rates has affected the overall box office collection of films like Akhand. Several actors and producers have moved the High Court against the government over the verdict.

A day before the theatrical release of his film Shyam Singha Roy, Nani was in Hyderabad for a press meet. Responding to a question on the government’s controversial decision to cap the price of cinema hall tickets, Nani said, “Keep aside the views of cinema halls, politicians etc. but you are insulting the audience. Today, somewhere, I saw (ticket rates) are Rs 10, Rs 15, Rs 20.

“It is not even logical if the counter of a grocery store looks bigger than the counter of a person who is providing employment to ten people and running a big theatre. This is nothing but an insult to me,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh minister Botsa Satyanarayana disagreed with actor Nani’s views and said, “Cinema ticket prices should be accessible to the common man. How is it insulting the audience?”

Minister Satyanarayana said the state government “is pro-aam aadmi. We will always work for the common man. If theaters keep looting the audience, we will not sit silent.”

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannabab rubbished actor Nani’s comments and said that “it is the responsibility of the state government to control the prices of movie tickets.”

Nani’s film Shyam Singha Roy has been released in theaters today. Based on the concept of reincarnation, the film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan. It stars Nani in a double role with Sai Pallavi. The film also stars Kriti Shetty and Madonna Sebastian in important roles.
