This comes almost a month after Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised free pilgrimage to Ayodhya, Shirdi, Velankanni and Ajmer Sharif if he forms the government in the state.
To avail the benefits of the scheme, Naik said that one must be at least 50 years of age and have to submit their voter and Aadhar card.
Naik said the forms would be available online at the deputy collector’s office and social welfare department.
Pilgrims can take anyone with them, but they will have to pay their own cost, which will be around Rs 10,000.
The cost to the Goa government will be Rs 1 to Rs 1.5 crore per journey both ways, where each journey can accommodate up to 1,000 persons.
Social Welfare Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra told reporters that there is no minimum limit on the number of passengers and both the trains will proceed on December 1 to whoever has booked.
When asked by reporters whether it would waste public money to send special trains with minimum number of passengers, Naik said the government had already received 700 applications and Mishra said there was no need to worry about money. .
Naik said that the citizens would be allowed on a first come first served basis.
When asked about the safety of the passengers, Naik said that everyone should be responsible for their own safety.
