GUWAHATI: An Indian Army investigative team led by an officer of the rank of Major General on Wednesday concluded a ground zero visit at Oting village in Nagaland’s Mon district in which 13 villagers were killed in a failed CI operation conducted by 21st Para. was murdered. SF) 4 December.
The investigation team recorded the statements of only two witnesses, one of the BJP’s Mon district president Nyawang Konyak and the other village protector leader Lelvang.
“I have told them (the army team) everything. I have asked him to withdraw the statement (made by Amit Shah in Parliament) that the army personnel fired only when the vehicle in which the villagers were traveling did not move. Stop after you get the signal, ”said Konyak.
In fact, para commandos had fired on the BJP leader too.
Konyak was the first to arrive at the scene when he heard that six people from his village had been killed in the gunfight.
“I have also heard that the villagers also attacked the army commandos in retaliation and I ran to make peace. But on seeing me, the commandos opened fire on us, even when the BJP flag was on my car. My driver got hit. Today I have shown my vehicle to the army team which has bullet marks on it,” Konyak said.
Konyak said the investigation team of 20 armed men was accompanied by Nagaland police officers.
Konyak civil society organizations on Tuesday issued a statement asking the army’s investigative team not to come in uniform and not to carry any weapons.
