Police have recovered two swords with which Lakhbir Singh was murdered at Singhu border of Sonepat in Haryana. The Sonipat police claimed that one of the two Special Investigation Teams (SITs) probing the case recovered ‘murder weapons’ from Nihangs from the camp.

The blood-stained clothes of Nihang Narayan Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh and Govindpreet, who had confessed to Lakhbir’s murder, were also seized by the police, which they were wearing at the time of the crime.

On the spot of the four Nihangs who had surrendered in this case, the SIT on Monday recovered both the swords from which Lakhbir’s hand and leg were chopped off from their tent at Singhu border. Wounds were inflicted on his body with these two swords.

Forensic team will investigate
The police have sent the blood-stained clothes and both the swords for forensic examination. Forensic team will find out whether the blood on the clothes is of Lakhbir or not? It is worth noting that earlier on Friday evening, at the time of surrender of Sarabjit Singh, a sword was handed over to the police by making a murder weapon on behalf of the Nihangs, but in the investigation it became clear that Lakhbir was not killed with that sword.

Let us inform that Nihang Narayan Singh, who had surrendered, confessed in front of the judge in Sonepat court on Sunday that he had cut off Lakhbir’s leg and Sarabjit’s hand with his sword. Bhagwant and Govindpreet helped Lakhbir hang his body on the barricade.

Bhagwant saw Lakhbir running away carrying holy books: SP
Sonipat SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa told late on Monday evening that the links of the incident seem to be connecting in the interrogation of the four Nihangs. During interrogation of the Nihangs, it was told that Bhagwant Singh first saw Lakhbir running away carrying the holy form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Lakhbir was caught after Bhagwant Singh immediately raised an alarm. Bhagwant Singh was also involved in hanging Lakhbir from the barricade after his death.

Two SITs formed to investigate the case
Meanwhile, Haryana Police has formed two Special Investigation Teams (SIT) to investigate the case related to Lakhbir Singh’s murder. Both these SITs will investigate this case from different angles. The officers involved in the SIT will investigate the real reasons behind Lakhbir’s murder as well as the circumstances of the incident at that time, besides the allegations of sacrilege being leveled by the Nihangs.

The first of these SITs has been formed under the leadership of IPS officer Mayank Gupta. Mayank Gupta is posted as ASP in Kharkhoda, Sonipat. The SIT headed by him will probe all the videos related to the incident that were circulated on social media.

The second SIT has been given the responsibility of overall investigation of this case. It is headed by Sonepat DSP Virender Singh. So far only Virendra Singh is the overall investigating officer (IO) in this case.

no case of sacrilege
The Nihangs had met Sonipat SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa and complained that a case of sacrilege should be registered and it should also be investigated. However, till Monday evening, the police did not register any such case on the complaint. SP Randhawa said that the investigation of the complaint of Nihangs is going on right now.

Range IG returned to Rohtak after 3 days
How much pressure was there on Haryana Police after this incident? This can be gauged from the fact that IG Sandeep Khirwar of Rohtak range stayed in Sonipat for 3 days. Narayan Singh, Bhagwant Singh and Govindpreet, who surrendered on Saturday, were taken to the CIA police station in Sector-7 before being produced before the court on Sunday.

There Sandeep Khirwar and Sonepat SP Jashandeep Randhawa interrogated the Nihangs themselves for almost an hour. On Monday, Sandeep Khirwar returned to Rohtak.

Many challenges in front of Sonipat Police
In the murder of Lakhbir Singh on Friday morning on the Singhu border, of course, four Nihangs have confessed to surrendering and killing them, but the Sonepat police is still under pressure in this case. Sonipat Police has taken all the four Nihangs on police remand and now it is facing the challenge of connecting all the episodes of this case.

Police have also recovered the murder weapon and blood-stained clothes but it is yet to identify the spot and if anyone else is involved in this case, then he is yet to be caught. Nihangs are repeatedly saying that 20 people have been given 30-30 thousand rupees for sacrilege and Lakhbir was one of them.

Who are the remaining 19 people? This too the police have to find out. Why did Lakhbir come from his village to the Singhu border? The answer is yet to be found.
