The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate to intense rainfall at many places around the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Friday evening. The weatherman has predicted rain in neighboring Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts within the next few hours.

According to official data, the island city received 119.09 mm of rain in the 12-hour period from 8 am to 8 pm on Thursday, followed by 78.69 mm in the western suburbs and 58.40 mm in the eastern suburbs. Before 8 am, the island city, western suburbs and eastern parts had received 36.72 mm, 45.75 mm and 41.47 mm of rainfall respectively in 24 hours.

IMD issued yellow alert

The Meteorological Department had on Thursday issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the city and neighboring districts for the next 24 hours. A high tide warning has also been issued. People have been advised to stay away from beaches. Waves up to 4.5 meters high can arise in the Arabian Sea.

Waterlogging was observed in many low-lying areas. Road traffic either slowed down or came to a halt due to water-logging on several roads. The movement of Mumbai’s lifeline local trains has also been affected due to waterlogging on the tracks.
