Adani Group-owned Mumbai International Airport on Monday said it has started a common security checkpoint for domestic and international passengers.

In addition, the private airport operator has installed 13 roller and sensor-based Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) at the newly integrated security checkpoint, which will further increase passenger processing time.

In a statement, the airport operator said it plans to install ATRS at Terminal 1 for the convenience of passengers departing from the terminal.

Mumbai airport has two terminals – T1 and T2.

T1 is for domestic passengers while T2 is for domestic and international passengers.

For the first time at an Indian airport, the unique integrated security checkpoint will be visible to all international and domestic passengers departing from T2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and will have to go through the general security clearance at Level 4 and specified e-keys. Thereafter, all departing passengers leave for their respective ‘Security Holding Areas’ (SHA).

Earlier, the security checks of domestic and international passengers were done at level 3 and 4 of T2 respectively, the statement said.

The private airport operator said that it is continuously working towards adopting solution-driven processes in various operations across the airport to bring ease of travel.

According to the statement, the unique challenges seen daily at airports require solutions that not only address the task at hand but also integrate a superior transit experience for passengers.

It has identified an opportunity to further streamline the security screening process for both international and domestic passengers, with international and domestic passengers coming together for the first time at a common security checkpoint, the statement said.

Post integration, both domestic and international passengers will pass through any one set of e-gates installed at five different locations in the pre-security check zone and will be separated through verification at the second set of e-gates installed after security check. Will go

Meanwhile, the airport operator has deployed 13 ATRS – roller and sensor-based machines – which are programmed to return the luggage tray to the starting point after passengers have picked up their luggage.

It added that the retrieval system can circulate an average of 350 sanitized trays per hour, which will not only increase the processing time of passenger baggage checks, but will also eliminate any manual intervention by the passenger or staff.
