Shack owners Kalidas Phadate said he and another person have the requisite permissions from the tourism department. Since there were some issues with the Mormugao City Council, they approached the court and won the case. When they started erecting the huts, the MPT personnel told them that they could not work without taking their permission and paying some fee.
“MPT has started harassing shack owners on South Goa beaches. This cannot be tolerated,” founding member NS Goencho Acquot, Orville Dorado said.
The president of the Goa Shake Owners Welfare Society, Cruz Cardozo, has warned that shack owners will oppose the MPT’s decision tooth and nail. He said the MPT cannot lay down the conditions as permitted by the tourism department and the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
A few days back, Aerosim’s shanties had also questioned MPT officials on the issue.
