1. Omicron in 25 states in 28 days, total cases cross 1200; First death due to new variant in the country
On Thursday, the first death has been recorded in Pimpri Chinchwad, Maharashtra from a new variant of the corona virus in the country, Omicron. The new variant has spread to 25 states in the country in 28 days. Now the total Omicron cases have gone up to 1201, out of which Maharashtra has the maximum number of 450 cases.

2. India won the Test for the first time in Centurion, beat South Africa to equal the Australian record
Team India defeated South Africa by 113 runs on the last day of the first test match of the series. This is India’s first win at Centurion. India has also equaled Australia’s record of winning most Test matches at 56 grounds.

what happened today in history
On 24 December 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC-814 going from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked and taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan. In order to save more than 170 passengers aboard this flight, India released 3 terrorists Masood Azhar, Ahmed Zargar and Sheikh Ahmed Omar Saeed on this day (December 31) 1999.
There were 178 passengers and 11 crew members on board the plane. This plane was hijacked by five terrorists of Pakistan-based Harkat-ul-Mujahideen terrorist organization with the active support and assistance of Pakistan Army. After hijacking the terrorists, the plane was stopped in Amritsar and Lahore, after which they finally took it to Kandahar in Afghanistan. (Read other events of the day)
