The Union Health Ministry said that 99 percent of healthcare workers have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 84 percent of eligible health workers have received the second dose.

The Union Health Ministry said in a press conference on Thursday that more than half of India’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 16 per cent have received both, as the cumulative number of doses administered in the country is 66 crore. has crossed. .

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that all adult populations in Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Himachal Pradesh have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

On expediting daily vaccination, he said 18.38 crore doses were given in August, during which 59.29 lakh doses were given daily. The average daily vaccination in the last seven days of August has been 80.27 lakh.

“This is a huge achievement and would not have been possible without the effective and maximum participation of all health workers, state governments and union territory administrations,” Bhushan said.

More than one crore vaccinations were done on both 27th and 31st August. According to the data shared at the press conference, the number of vaccine doses administered daily has increased from 19.69 lakh in May to 39.89 lakh in June and 43.41 lakh in July.

In Sikkim, 36 percent of the eligible population has been given second dose, in Dadra and Nagar Haveli it is 18 percent and in Himachal Pradesh it is 32 percent.

In addition, in Tripura, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Mizoram, more than 85 percent of the population has been given the first dose.

Bhushan said that 99 per cent of the healthcare workers have received the first dose of the vaccine while 84 per cent of the qualified healthcare workers have received the second dose.

He said that 100 per cent of the frontline workers have been given the first dose while 80 per cent have been given the second dose.

“Furthermore, 16 per cent of India’s adult population has been fully vaccinated, which means they have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 54 per cent have received less,” the Union Health Secretary said. Less than one dose has been given.”

Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog urged those who have not yet been vaccinated.

Paul further underlined that vaccination programs among pregnant women should be intensified, given that many people have not been vaccinated.

Paul also stressed the need for a second dose. “For complete protection, the second dose is critical. The level of protection one receives after the second dose is much higher than the one after the first. There is a complete guarantee of getting one after the second dose.

“The government is making efforts but if your second dose is about to come, please get it because then you are more protected and it becomes difficult for the virus to be transmitted through you,” he said.
