Uttar Pradesh bowler Shiva Singh conceded 43 runs in an over which included seven consecutive sixes.

Monday Blues? Not at all if your name is Ruturaj Gaikwad India The batsman has rewritten the record books by hitting seven consecutive sixes in an over to create a List A world record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

He has become the first player in the history of limited overs cricket to hit seven sixes in an over. The record for most sixes in an over (overall), however, is held by New Zealand’s Lee Germon, who hit eight of them during a surprising turn of events in a Shell Trophy match in Wellington.

Maharashtra opener Gaikwad created a record during the quarter-final match of Vijay Hazare Trophy with Uttar Pradesh at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground in Ahmedabad on Monday (November 28).

Shiva Singh was the unlucky bowler to hit seven sixes in the 49th over of the innings – thanks to a no-ball that was dispatched over the boundary by the rising top-order batsman.

And an over of mayhem Gaikwad saw him rocket from 165 for 147 to 207 for 154 – his maiden double century in List A cricket.

Leading Maharashtra in the last-eight stage of India’s premier one-day competition, Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 220 off 159 balls, an innings that contained 10 fours and 16 sixes.

Thus they ended with 330/5 in 50 overs.

The 25-year-old Gaikwad now also holds the record for most runs scored in a single over – 42. The earlier record was held by Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura, who scored 39 off Alauddin Babu in a Dhaka Premier Division match in 2013. ,

Shiva’s 43 runs conceded is now the joint-highest in the history of List A cricket, equaling New Zealand’s Willem Ludik.
