Bommai to Visit Delhi to Meet Nadda, Also Top Advocate on Maha Border Dispute

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said he would visit New Delhi to meet BJP national president JP Nadda and also hold discussions with a senior advocate in the Supreme Court over the legal battle with Maharashtra over the border dispute.

The Chief Minister is expected to visit the national capital on Tuesday.

The meeting with Nadda assumes significance as he recently indicated that the much-awaited expansion or reshuffle of his cabinet is likely to happen after the Gujarat assembly elections.

Bommai said, “I am going to Delhi, where I hope to meet Nadda, I have not received his appointment yet, I hope to get it.”

Talking to reporters here, he said, he will also hold a meeting with senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi on the border issue and will also meet Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Bommai has been under a lot of pressure for some time now to expand and reshuffle the cabinet to make way for fresh faces ahead of next year’s assembly elections.

There have been some reports of a possible cabinet expansion by filling six vacancies or removing some and inducting an equal number of new faces.

There was also talk in some circles that there could be a complete top-to-bottom makeover in the state ministry like in Gujarat. However, many candidates believe that it is too late now and the elections are fast approaching.

Meanwhile, as the state gears up for a legal battle with neighboring Maharashtra over the border dispute, the chief minister will meet senior advocate Rohatgi during the visit to discuss it.

Bommai had on Sunday chaired a meeting with senior advocates and officials in view of the matter coming up for hearing in the Supreme Court on November 30.

Responding to Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah’s allegation that the BJP distorted the Constitution, Bommai said, “It is the Congress which did this during the Emergency by curtailing personal liberty and sending everyone to jail.” We do not need to learn from this. them.”
