MIT students may soon get work in DRDO lab. Mangaluru News – Times of India

Manipal: With the contribution of private player In defense sector continuously increasing over the years, Manipal Institute of Technology (with), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is all set to present a M.Tech in Defense Technology courses in collaboration with Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) this year
A special program will help create a pool of talented workers for the defense sector, and for their final year thesis, postgraduate students will be provided opportunities to work in DRDO laboratories, defense public sector units (PSUs) and industries .
Confirming the development, MIT Director, Commander Anil Rana told TOI: “We are targeting to launch this course this year. We have taken the responsibility after DRDO and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) started this program. In the second year, students can opt for subject specialization. ”
“This is a unique opportunity of its kind as the laboratories that the students taking these courses would need are with DRDO. We are coordinating with DRDO and finalizing on laboratories and other aspects. There are a lot of opportunities not only in DRDO laboratories, but also for many private players to enter the defense equipment manufacturing and systems integration sector,” he said.
The current intake for the course is 30, and MIT is working closely with DRDO and Institute of Defense Scientists and Technologists (IDST). “While laboratory is one aspect, MIT is also looking at hiring ex-DRDO scientists as faculty, as some of the techniques may be sensitive, and expertise may not be available in private organisations. There’s a lot of paperwork and planning going on. The team is working hard to start the course at the earliest,” Commander Anil Rana said.
