If you’ve ever felt constantly tired, withdrawn, and/or isolated, you may be experiencing this negative state.

It is almost impossible to avoid stress in our daily lives. From work-related stressors to life throwing a curveball at us, the general unpredictability of situations can sometimes be hard to handle. Over time, if it piles up, it can lead to feelings of emotional exhaustion or burnout.

It can spill over into other areas of your life and hence it is necessary to face it. In order to find a solution, one first needs to find out why they are having this burnout. While significant life changes are one very obvious reason after another, Here are 5 other reasons you may be emotionally exhausted:

job demand

Anyone who works in a job they dislike or in a workplace where they feel they lack control is likely to feel emotional exhaustion after a point. In addition, those in demanding jobs such as health professionals, security forces, social workers and teachers who work long hours are also at a higher risk of this problem.

poor self care

People may often have lifestyles that contribute to emotional exhaustion. It can be something as simple as not getting enough sleep and overworking yourself to the point where there is no room for relaxation. Even if you’re not in a demanding job, it’s possible to work a lot.

lack of support system

Loneliness or a lack of a support system can make your emotional exhaustion worse. As social animals, humans thrive when they have close relationships with whom they can share their feelings. These may include family and friends. When people are deficient in it, it can lead to feelings of isolation.

A lack of this can lead to people feeling less motivated and subsequently feeling disconnected from their work. Other work-related emotional exhaustion can be caused by unclear or overly demanding job expectations.

contribution of personality traits

There are certain personality traits that may make you more vulnerable to emotional exhaustion. These include perfectionistic tendencies, pessimism toward self and the world, and a need to be in control. Even high achievers can experience burnout.
