Meghalaya may receive below normal rainfall in July, says IMD

Monsoon started in Meghalaya on June 1 and the state has received 927.2 mm of rain so far. The monsoon season will continue till 30 September.

According to a source in the India Meteorological Department, Meghalaya is likely to receive below normal rainfall in July. “…so far Meghalaya has received normal rainfall, however, trends suggest that it is slightly below normal.” The IMD said that the state has received normal rains so far.

Mausinram, known as the rainiest place in the world, received 174.2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, followed by Baghmara in South Garo Hills with 81.4 mm of rain. While RKM Sohra received 72.6 mm of rain, Sohra received 68.2 mm of rain.

Monsoon started in the state on June 1 and so far 927.2 mm of rain has been received. The monsoon season will continue till 30 September.

He was named among the two most famous places in India to experience spectacular monsoon rains as the IMD reported that Mausinram received 3,568.1 mm of rain since June 1, followed by Sohra (Cherrapunji) with 3194.2 mm of rain.

Williamnagar in East Garo Hills received 1382.3 mm and Baghmara in South Garo Hills 1190.2 mm in a month, which is the fourth highest rainfall in the state.

The serene but mesmerizing Mausinram had once overtaken Cherrapunji to become the wettest place, however, it saw a decline in post-monsoon rains.
