Kanpur: MeenakshiThe wife of city-based businessman Manish Gupta, who was allegedly injured during a police raid on September 27 at a hotel in Gorakhpur, has demanded the immediate arrest of the policemen accused in the case, citing danger to her family.
Meenakshi told reporters on Sunday that the policemen accused in her husband’s murder were evading police arrest and hence her life and that of her family members were in danger.
She further said that the police killed her husband without any reason, so they have a strong reason to kill him and his family members.
“It has been more than 60 hours since the FIR was registered, but the accused policemen are still absconding,” he said.
He said that the entire family is in danger for not taking action against the policemen.
“They killed Manish without any reason, and now they have reason to kill me and my family members. I have lodged an FIR against him. I am fighting for justice,” she said.
“We feel threatened. The accused policemen should be arrested at the earliest,” demanded a member of Meenakshi’s family.
Manish died on the late evening of 27 September after he was allegedly assaulted by the police at Krishna Palace Hotel in Ramgarhtal area of ​​Gorakhpur.
Six policemen including Ramgarhtal police station inspector Jagat Narayan Singh, Phalmandi police station in-charge sub-inspector (SI) Akshay Mishra and SI Vijay Yadav have been suspended. An FIR has also been registered against the accused policemen.
The state government had on Friday recommended a CBI probe into Gupta’s death and a recommendation has been made to the central government on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avneesh K Awasthi said in a press statement.
“Until the CBI takes over the investigation, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted for the purpose will investigate the matter, transfer the case from Gorakhpur to Kanpur,” the statement said.
The government has also ordered to appoint Meenakshi to the post of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Kanpur Development Authority.
The Chief Minister has ordered to increase the financial assistance of the bereaved family to Rs 40 lakh and met them on Thursday.
