Sunil Gavaskar said that the India captain should take a break to keep himself fit for the ICC World Test Championship, which is to be played in London next month.

Former India captain and veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has come up with a suggestion for Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling big time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. He has played 10 matches so far and has been successful. Just 184 runs, including a fifty-plus score against Delhi Capitals, and holds a strike rate of 126. He hit the lowest on Saturday afternoon when his team squared off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk.

Reflecting on Rohit’s lean patches, Gavaskar said that the India captain should take a break to keep himself fit for the ICC World Test Championship, which is to be played in London next month.

He said, ‘I would say that Rohit should take a break for now and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final. He may come back again for the last few matches, but for now, [he should] Take some rest yourself,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Came out to bat at no. 3, Rohit’s innings lasted three balls as he was dismissed by Deepak Chahar for a duck. This was the 16th time Rohit was dismissed without troubling the scorers, setting a bizarre record for most ducks in IPL. It was also the second consecutive duck for the MI skipper in the ongoing tournament.

“It doesn’t look like he’s in the game. I could be completely wrong, but the shot he played was not a captain’s shot. A captain repairs an innings knowing the team is in trouble, plays a good innings , and takes the team to a decent total. Two wickets not more in the power-play and you are not in form,” Gavaskar said.

“If you are in form, I still understand the scoop shot, but it is a huge shot when you got two ducks in the last game. So, you want to play and get yourself off the mark. want, get some movement in the legs, run quicks and twos, and then go for the big ones. Maybe, he is busy and maybe a little break would do him good. But it is up to him and the team management of Mumbai Indians has to decide.

After the conclusion of IPL 2023, Team India will leave for London as they face Australia in the final of the WTC starting June 7 at The Oval.
