Markets trade lower in early trade; Sensex falls over 444 points

MUMBAI: Benchmark indices started the day on a bearish note and traded with losses on Tuesday amid a weak global market trend and rising crude oil prices.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell for the third day in a row, falling 444.53 points to 62,390.07. The broader NSE Nifty closed 123.15 points lower at 18,577.90.

In the Sensex pack, HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, Infosys, Dr Reddy’s, Tata Consultancy Services, Sun Pharma, Nestle and Bharti Airtel were the major laggards.

Winners included IndusInd Bank, Hindustan Unilever, NTPC, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv.

In other markets of Asia, there was a decline in the markets of Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong, while Tokyo remained in the green mark.

Wall Street closed in negative territory on Monday.

On Monday, the BSE benchmark closed 33.9 points or 0.05 per cent lower at 62,834.60. The Nifty ended marginally higher at 18,701.05, up 4.95 points or 0.03 per cent.

International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.57 per cent higher at $83.15 per barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,139.07 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.
