Amid ongoing violence in Manipur, over 1,000 people from the state have moved to Assam’s Cachar district to take shelter.

All arrangements have been made for the refugees by the Cachar district administration, which has also provided drinking water and food facilities in various districts.

Cachar Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police told ANI that the district administration has made all necessary arrangements for the entry of Manipur residents into the district.

Over a thousand Manipuris have now sought refuge in the district. They are currently taking shelter in different parts of the district.

Mizoram will evacuate its citizens

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Friday said his government is working to evacuate people stranded in violence-hit Manipur from the state.

In addition, Zoramthanga promised protection to the people of Manipur living in Mizoram.

He urged both the central government and the Manipur government to step up efforts to end mob violence in the northeastern state.

“Efforts are on for charter flights to evacuate the residents of the state, especially students and employees stranded in the neighboring state,” the Mizoram chief minister said in a statement.

Zoramthanga said he had asked Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to guarantee the safe return of the abandoned tribal persons to the capital Imphal and he had assured of necessary steps.
