A video showing two women from one of the warring communities in Manipur marching naked in Manipur’s Kangpokpi surfaced on July 19, triggering massive outrage. The incident took place in Kangpokpi district on May 4, a day after violence broke out in the northeastern state.

The four, who were earlier arrested on May 4, were on Friday sent to 11-day police custody. The arrests were made on Thursday, a day after the 26-second video surfaced on 19 July. The house of the prime suspect in the case was torched on Thursday, hours after he was taken into custody by authorities.

Police said that in the video he was mainly directing the crowd at Bi Phenom village in Kangpokpi district. One of the women found in the video is the wife of an ex-serviceman who served in the Indian Army as a Subedar of the Assam Regiment and surprisingly, fought in the Kargil War.

It may be reviewed that the complaint regarding the viral video was lodged at the Saikul police headquarters in Kangpokpi area about a month ago – on June 21.
