Telugu star Akkineni Nagarjuna is known for his wisdom in choosing films. The veteran actor has acted in over 100 films in various languages in his career spanning three decades. The actor has given many hit films in his illustrious career. However, like all other actors, Nagarjuna has also rejected many films. Some of them were commercially and critically successful, while others were box office failures. Here are some of the movies rejected by Nagarjuna.
Mechanic Alludu: The film that Nagarjuna was supposed to do went into the hands of Chiranjeevi. The 1993 comedy drama was directed by B Gopal. Nageswara Rao was also in the film. The film bombed at the box office.
Aaha: The 1998 film was produced by Nagarjuna but he chose not to act in it. Jagapathi Babu was in the lead role in this film directed by Suresh Krishna. The film was based on a good story and was a hit.
RGV’s Ramayan: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma wanted Nagarjuna to do a film titled Ramayan as the protagonist. But knowing the reputation of RGV in recent years, the veteran actor refused to star in the project.
Maunaragam: Nagarjuna had to give up a classic film early in his career. The film was written and directed by Mani Ratnam. However, Nagarjuna and Mani Ratnam collaborated in 1989 for Geetanjali, which is considered a cult hit in Telugu cinema.
Kalisundam Ra: This 2000 blockbuster film slipped from Nagarjuna’s hands as he did not find the story exciting. Director Udayashankar told a similar story to Nagarjuna, who was already making family drama films. Nagarjuna, however, found the story simple and similar to his previous film Ramudochadu.
Badri: Puri Jagannath made his first film with Pawan Kalyan as the protagonist. But before finalizing Pawan Kalyan, Puri narrated the story to Nagarjuna. Puri Jagannath worked with Nagarjuna when he was an assistant director. However, later Puri and Nagarjuna worked together for films like Super and Shivamani.
Ponniyin Selvan: Mani Ratnam thought of Nagarjuna as the protagonist in most of his films after Geetanjali. Mahesh Babu and Nagarjuna were going to be seen sharing the screen in the film. Thalapathy: The story of Mani Ratnam’s classic blockbuster was also narrated to Nagarjuna. The film starred Rajinikanth and Mammootty in the lead roles. However, Nagarjuna was Mani Ratnam’s first choice for the role played by Mammootty.
