India’s new Test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is really keen on doing his duty and doing it well. However, there are many who believed that bowlers could not be great leaders. Recently, former selector Sarandeep Singh had said that he was ‘shocked’ by the rise of Bumrah. Barring Kapil Dev, no Indian fan can remember an express fast bowler playing the role of the vice-captain, let alone the captain. At least not in the modern era. But Bumrah wants to break the stereotype.

“I don’t see it as a specific position like a spinner or a fast bowler or that batsman being the leader. As a senior member of the team, you have to do everything possible to help the players. As I have said before, this is just a post for me. Yes, this is a great opportunity that has presented itself, and I am very happy to do so. But other positions like bowler or batsman don’t matter. It just depends on how you handle that situation, and how tactically strong you are. So, I will try my best to help Rohit.”
With the return of Shubman Gill and Hanuma Vihari, speculations are being made about India’s batting order. But Bumrah refused to divulge anything saying that he has yet to prepare the team combination so soon.
