While 37 students from Karnataka have been safely evacuated from Ukraine, there are many more students who are waiting to reach home safely at the earliest.

MANGALURU: While 37 students from Karnataka have been safely evacuated from Ukraine, there are many more students who are waiting to reach home safely at the earliest.
Sakshi Sudhakar, a fourth-year medical student at Petro Mohila Black Sea National Medical University, Mykolaiv, Ukraine, one of 18 students from Dakshina Kannada, Ukraine, said she is stuck in Mykolaiv along with 300 other students. He said there are around 15 people from Karnataka, out of which two are from Mangaluru.
The attack has been going on for three days and food and water resources are limited. We need to get out of place, but there is no means of transport to reach the borders. Sakshi, a resident of Bejai, has released a video to let the embassy know that the students are trapped there.
It’s easy for people to say that we could have left sooner, but we had our reasons and there was nothing we could do about it. It is too late now and we request the embassy to take us to the border. “The situation is terrible. We are living in bunkers which are not comfortable. Washrooms are an issue and food and water supply is limited. Please help us,” she appealed through a video.
There could be many more students whose condition could get worse and many more stranded at borders. It is not safe to travel now. He said that daily essential items are running out of stock at the grocery stores.
Sakshi’s father Sudhakar Kudungu said, “We are in touch with the district administration and the administration has formed a WhatsApp group with all the parents. We have also reached out to the MP and MLA for help and are requesting for all possible help so that the students can reach home safely. This incident has strengthened the daughter further.”
