MANGALURU: In the wake of attacks on a Indian Air Force There is a lot of apprehension about the preparedness to deal with such a situation across the country at the station using the drone in Jammu. Mangaluru city police has identified a no-fly zone, and informed the government to declare the zone. Mangaluru is a sensitive location with establishments like NMPT, MRPL and a lot of industries, which have security implications.
Last year, there were incidents of toy helicopters and small drones being found near Mangaluru International Airport. Highly placed sources said that such cases have been taken seriously and action is being taken on them. City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar is working in close coordination with the Bureau civil Aviation Security, to introduce adequate measures, which will protect airports and such establishments from drone attacks or infiltration. An official said they are already in talks with some Israeli agencies to acquire technology to deal with the threat posed by drones.
Drone combat techniques involve either breaking the communication channel with the drone, including radio communication between the drone operator and the drone, as well as disabling the drone’s GPS system. “The best technologies will be implemented not only in Mangaluru but across the country,” a senior official said.
DCP Hariram Shankar said, “Recently we have seen people using toy drones, drones for wedding photography and entertainment. Drones have to be registered. It is important to have a unique identification number (UIN) and Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit (UNOP) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. All drone pilots must have a Drone Pilot Flying License and undergo training while flying a drone. Drones should be insured.”
He told TOI that they are in close coordination with the South Canara Photographers Association, and have listed all the drones with their registration numbers and other details. Urging the drone users to follow the legal remedies, he said that drones without legal documents would be confiscated. Around 50 drone owners have been identified. We can engage trainers for training sessions on drones, he said.
