Manali bans illegal camping without permission: Report

Whenever we think of holidaying with our friends, the first name that comes to our mind is Manali. It is the best place for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Even though there are many fun things to do, camping in Manali holds a special place in the heart of every traveller. From night camps to riverside camps, there is no dearth of thrilling camping locations in this famous hill station.

However, in a major development, Manali has taken a step to ban illegal camping here. According to a report in Times of India, Manali sub-divisional magistrate Surendra Thakur described how people come to Manali without any permission and enter forest areas to mark it as their permanent camp area. He further added, “These camp areas are littering and polluting the water sources as well. Strict action will be taken to stop this activity.”

In addition, the new rule states that those who want to enter the forest areas will have to pay Rs. 50. The government has asked the authorities to clear illegal camps from such places and checkpoints have been put up at various places especially at the beginning of well-travelled trekking routes.

Reportedly, a team will create temporary check posts to verify authorization and adherence to HP Adventure Activity Rules. The first checkpoint will be set up to manage camping and hiking on the Hamta Pass trek. The forest department will issue camping licenses, and activity will only be allowed at least 25 meters from water streams. Additionally, solo camping is prohibited unless a specific license is granted.

Places like Solang Valley, Tentsville Camping, Bhanu Bridge, Tirthan Valley, Beas River and Sethan are some of the famous places to camp in Manali.
