Man with Covid, disguised as wife, wears mask to board Indonesian flight

An Indonesian man with coronavirus has boarded a domestic flight as his wife, who has her face covered and fake ID and a negative PCR test result, has taken. But this cover did not last long.

On Sunday, a flight attendant on a CityLink flight from Jakarta to Ternet in northern Maluku province noticed a man changing clothes in the toilet, police say.

“He bought the plane ticket in his wife’s name and brought identity card, PCR test result and vaccination card with his wife’s name. All the documents are in the name of his wife. He was known only by his initials.

The police took him for a COVID-19 test, which came back positive. The man is currently self-isolating at home and police said the investigation would continue.

Indonesia is reeling under the worst coronavirus growth in Asia with 33,772 new confirmed cases and 1,383 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases stands at 2.9 million with 77,583 deaths.

Restrictions on non-essential travel, including a mandatory negative coronavirus test, and public gatherings have been tightened over the Eid al-Adha holiday next week.
