Man accused of multiple aggravated robberies, 1 in 3 accused of shooting a Baytown detective – Henry’s Club

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) – A Baytown detective was chased down a highway and shot by three men in search of a wanted criminal, according to police.

Police said the detective was looking for a suspect in the 10,000 block of Cedar Landing on January 12, when an SUV rammed into it next to its passenger door.

According to police, the detective was not feeling safe, so he left the area, but saw suspects following him on Highway 146. The detective apprised the other officers of the situation, but soon the suspects opened fire.

Despite a bullet hit the officer’s vehicle, he was not injured.

Officers later found the suspect’s vehicle at a home on Booker Street. Three men, identified as 22-year-old Travis Menifee, 30-year-old Ty Thompson and 33-year-old Melvin Thomas, were taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said this is Menifee’s second felony charge after his involvement in a separate shooting on Donovan Street on January 7.

In that separate incident, court documents state that Menifi was at Evian Skates’ home, along with several others, filming the music video. Shortly after the group finished filming, Menifi punched Skates in the face, pointed a pistol at him, and demanded to give “everything” to the victim, the records say. Several bullets were exchanged by one or more others while hitting the skates.

Officers spoke to Skates’ fiancé, who said Menifi was involved in a serious robbery.

The Baytown Police Department urges anyone with information about the January 12 shooting to contact 281-422-8371, or they can leave a tip with Baytown Crime Stoppers at 281-427-8477.
