Mamta said, Dhankhar’s name was in the Jain Hawala case chargesheet, the governor’s counterattack

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee On Monday, a fresh attack on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was launched, claiming that his name was in the “chargesheet of the Jain hawala case” – the charges leveled by the governor.

Dhankhar claimed that Banerjee’s facts were based on “misinformation” and that she had “never expected such a statement from a seasoned politician”.

Speaking to media persons at the state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee also said that she had written three letters to the Center in the past, demanding the removal of Dhankhar from the post of West Bengal governor.

“He (Governor Dhankhar) is a corrupt person and his name was in the chargesheet in the Jain hawala case (in 1996). I have written three letters to remove them.”

He said, ‘We formed the government in Bengal with a massive mandate of the people. Why would someone (pointing to Governor Dhankhar) unnecessarily impose his conditions? he said.

The infamous Jain hawala scandal was a political and financial scam that allegedly involved huge payments sent by politicians through four hawala brokers, namely the Jain brothers.

‘Such statement of Mamata is unfortunate’

Responding to Banerjee’s allegations, Dhankhar while addressing a press conference at Raj Bhavan said, “This is a clear case of sensationalism through misinformation.”

“I never expected such a statement from an experienced politician like Mamata Banerjee. She is like my younger sister and her statement like this is unfortunate. Let me make it clear that the charge sheet has never been filed against your governor.

said.

“Such allegations are far from the truth. Such gimmicks cannot break my soul. I will not allow such gimmicks to come in the way of my discharging my duties. Find out whether the charge sheet has been filed against your governor or not?” she added.

Asked whether he would take any legal action against Banerjee for her remarks, the governor said,Bharatiya sanskriti mein…koi bhi kya apni chhoti behan ke khilaf action liya hai…(In our Indian culture, does anyone take action against their younger sister?)”

“He is a mature leader and politician and his remarks like this against me are extremely unfortunate. Ten minutes before today’s press conference (by Mamata Banerjee), he called me about my concern on some of the pointers mentioned in my address copy, which I have to read in the state assembly (on July 2). Soon after I protested at certain points in the speech, he held a press conference and accused me of being a corrupt person. Think this before going to bed today,” the governor said.

I am not going to give up under any circumstances. I will bow down only before the Indian Constitution, not before anyone.”

Minutes after his press meet, TMC MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray said, “He is claiming that he was not chargesheeted in the Jain hawala case, but did not clarify whether his name came up in the case or not.” . We will investigate this matter more deeply and more facts will come to light in the coming days.

The ruling Trinamool Congress has in the past expressed concern over Dhankhar’s role and even dubbed the Raj Bhavan a BJP office.

Recently, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee had complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about Dhankhar’s interference in the functioning of the state assembly.

gujarat government demands ‘special audit’ of gorkhaland territorial administration

Earlier on Monday, Dhankhar pushed for a “special audit” of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, after receiving reports of complaints of malpractice and corruption. GTA is an autonomous district council for Darjeeling. and Kalimpong.

Speaking to media persons in North Bengal – after his week-long visit to the region – Dhankhar said, “I have received several complaints of misconduct and corruption in the GTA. As a governor, I have the power (as per the Constitution). I will ensure a complete special audit of GTA accounts. It is surprising that GTA has no elected representatives and North Bengal has lagged behind as far as development is concerned.
