Mamata Banerjee thinking of alliance without Congress: Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday claimed the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Leaving Congress was contemplating an alliance. Raut also claimed in his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana that Banerjee had said that her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) would not test Maharashtra’s political waters.

Notably, the TMC leadership on Saturday said it would continue to form an alternative front as the Congress had “failed to lead the fight” against the BJP. Banerjee had made a cryptic statement during her recent visit to Mumbai that “there is no UPA now”.

On Friday, TMC mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla’ launched a fresh attack on the Congress, saying it has gone into the “deep freezer”. Recently, ‘Jago Bangla’ also claimed that Mamata Banerjee, not Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, has attacked the Congress. Has emerged as the face of the opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Raut, whose party shares power with the NCP and Congress in Maharashtra, claimed on Sunday, “It seems that Banerjee is contemplating something new by leaving the Congress. She also claimed that the Shiv Sena leader and the state During her meeting with minister Aaditya Thackeray a few days back, she told the latter that “we will not come here because Shiv Sena and NCP are strong”.

The Rajya Sabha member said that the TMC is going to contest the upcoming assembly elections in the neighboring state of Goa and is also spreading its wings in the north-eastern states of Tripura and Meghalaya. He said that during his visit to Mumbai, Banerjee had discussed the exchange of tourism and culture between the two states with Aaditya Thackeray.

Raut, executive editor of Saamana, said that he sought land for the construction of Bengal Bhawan in Mumbai, so that patients could get accommodation while coming for treatment, especially at the Tata Cancer Hospital. “Both the states share an emotional bond with history. It was decided that the bond should be further strengthened for the benefit of the younger generation so that they can attain a pinnacle in history,” the Shiv Sena leader said.

He also said that Banerjee has invited Aaditya Thackeray for the upcoming Kolkata International Film Festival. Saamna on Saturday said keeping the Congress out of national politics and forming an opposition alliance parallel to the UPA without it amounted to strengthening the ruling BJP and “fascist” forces.

The Marathi daily had also said that those who do not want the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) should explain their stand publicly instead of creating confusion by talking behind the back. During their visit to Mumbai, Aaditya Thackeray and Raut had met Banerjee on behalf of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who is currently recovering after a cervical spine surgery.
