Last week, 46-year-old Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on the basis of a 2018 report investigating a drug racket in Punjab.
Majithia is brother-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Majithia had earlier denied all the allegations against him.
The Shiromani Akali Dal had termed the registration of the FIR against Majithia as “political vendetta”.
The state crime branch had registered a 49-page FIR at its Mohali police station.
In his bail plea, Majithia said the Congress government “leaved no stone unturned in abusing its powers and position to take revenge on its political opponents”.
“Targeting the applicant/petitioner is one of the major election issues of the present government. To accomplish its election stunt, the Congress government of the state of Punjab is threatening the officials day and night to register false cases against the senior leadership Shiromani Akali Dal including the petitioner/petitioner,” as per the petition.
According to the petition, ahead of the elections, the hunt for political opponents has reached its peak.
The petitioner argued that three DGPs and three directors of the Bureau of Investigation were changed and the police officers were forced to falsely implicate the applicant.
