The Maharashtra School Education Department, in its order, said that schools of other boards can take a decision regarding closure after considering their curriculum and activities.

The government has said that all schools affiliated to state boards in Maharashtra will remain closed from Friday in view of the prevailing heat wave conditions.

The order states that schools in the state will reopen on June 15, except in the Vidarbha region. Will resume in Vidarbha from June 30.

On April 16, at least 14 people died due to heat stroke after attending the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony held at an open ground in Navi Mumbai. Opposition parties have criticized the Eknath Shinde-led state government over the deaths, alleging mismanagement.

Heat wave conditions are being experienced in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department said the Santacruz observatory in Mumbai recorded 38.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while Navi Mumbai recorded a high of 42 degrees Celsius.

According to the Nagpur-based Maharashtra Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chandrapur was the hottest district in Vidarbha region on Wednesday with the maximum temperature at 42.8 degrees Celsius in Chandrapur, while it was 43.8 degrees Celsius in Bramhapuri tehsil.

An official order said that in view of the rise in mercury levels, the timings of jungle safari at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Chandrapur have been changed from April 20.
